Darling Daughter’s high school spring musical was this past weekend. They did Grease, and she played Rizzo. Doesn’t she look GORGEOUS in her red dance dress? And you should have seen her dancing! Favored by Terpsichore, that one is. She sure can dance. Not to mention sing! She literally had people in tears with her rendition of “Worse Things,” What a great way to wind up her high school stage experience! Anyway, I have been busy of late helping out with the costumes. The budget for this show was nearly non-existent, so most of the costumes were recycled from other shows, but I did make this red dress. The organza moved so prettily on stage, especially with a red crinoline underneath.
I also made a dress for Darlng Daughter’s friend Khaya — she looked so cute in her purple polka dots! And that one can sing too — she played J.J. Casino (which is Johnny Casino in the script!) — and she did a rousing job with “Born to Hand Jive!”
It was an absolutely wonderful show!
The other thing I’ve been busy with is a regular rite of spring for me: wardrobe purging. I find I have to do it at least twice a year. See, here’s the size of my closet:
One rail. That’s it. Except for half of a large dresser that Dearly Beloved and I share, this is where everything has to fit.
This paucity of space absolutely forces me to keep everything very well edited. And boy, was it time to do some editing! I managed to cull four grocery bags full of clothes to send to Goodwill. But oh, the result! I love, love, love a well-organized closet! Skirts, jackets, tops, jeans — everybody hanging out with like-minded friends!
Day-to-day shoes on the bottom.
Party shoes above. All nice and tidy!
And I did my dresser drawers too — look!
(That’s my tee shirt from Darling Daughter’s fall play there in the front)
Wonderful new drawer dividers!
Not exactly glamorous work, but very satisfying. Now I will have room for all the new things I want to make!
