I do believe spring is FINALLY here! Hooray!! I do love winter — especially when it snows — but I’m ready for some warm temperatures, bird song, and FLOWERS!!! Color and light and general merry-making. Look — I’ve got daffodils blooming!
And how pretty is this Weeping Cherry? When it was first planted it only had about three branches, and Dearly Beloved laughed and said it looked like a Charlie Brown tree. But it’s come along nicely, don’t you think?
Anyway, I’m also ready to sew some spring clothes — I’m so sick of being covered in dark colors all the time. I’ve been looking at current runway trends for inspiration. Is it just me, or do a lot of things actually look pretty wearable this year? There are several trends I’d like to try.
EASTER EGG COLORS

It seems like pastels are the big color story this spring. I’ve been seeing a lot of soft greens and pinks especially. For years I’ve focused mostly on neutrals in my wardrobe. I think they tend to be more sophisticated and timeless, but I really don’t think I’m capable of resisting the pretty colors that are all over the place this year. But hmmmm, wait. If I make pastel dresses do you think I’ll end up floating off in a candy-colored haze and spend all my afternoons drifting around in other people’s flower gardens? It could definitely happen.

I WANT THIS DRESS!! Oh my goodness, is there anything not to ADORE about this? The silhouette! The colors! The embroidery! This Oscar de la Renta dress is just pure classic prettiness. And speaking of pretty, I love a lot of the floral prints I’m seeing:
BLACK AND WHITE
This doesn’t really seem like a trend to me. I’ve been wearing black and white for years, and I think I always will. But it’s always fun to get new inspiration. I think I might try playing around with some graphic prints. Who knows? Maybe I’ll even get a little bit crazy and try to combine a couple (or more! Hey, I can be madcap!).
There are some other interesting ideas out there too —
Lots of emphasis on shirt collars. (photo credit www.harpersbazaar.com)
Metallics — definitely in a smaller dose for me! (photo credit www.harpersbazaar.com)
Wide-leg white pants. (photo credit www.harpersbazaar.com)
Cropped tops — erm. We’ll see. (photo credit www.harpersbazaar.com)
Okay, enough with the pretty pictures! I’m off to sew!!!
